SpaceUG is Uganda’s first digital civic engagement platform designed to protect, expand, and sustain civic space through collective digital action, community empowerment, and coordinated advocacy. Built under the CIVICUS Crisis Response Fund, SpaceUG provides a safe and collaborative space for human rights defenders, civil society organizations, grassroots movements, youth networks, and everyday citizens to connect, mobilize, and amplify their voices.

As civic space in Uganda faces growing threats from legal restrictions to digital surveillance and political intimidation SpaceUG emerges as a digital lifeline for civic actors who are determined to resist repression and inspire systemic change.

We document and respond to civic space violations, enabling real-time alerts, solidarity actions, and legal resource access for defenders and organizations under threat.

🔹 Digital Advocacy & Campaigns

SpaceUG hosts and supports digital campaigns such as #ProtectCivicSpaceUganda, providing multimedia tools, messaging templates, and mobilization strategies for movements and campaigns.

🔹 Knowledge Hub

We offer civic toolkits, legal guides, digital safety resources, and position papers—curated for use by grassroots organizers, CSOs, and engaged citizens.

🔹 Community Building

Through interactive forums, groups, and events, SpaceUG nurtures solidarity among diverse movements across Uganda’s regions connecting rural and urban actors, youth and elders, digital and offline organizers.
